Larry Shinoda, who had designed the Corvette C2, was central to the project, which was run in secrecy — and the name \"Boss\" came out of that development period and stuck.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe car got engine upgrades, enlarged wheel wells, spoilers and distinctive paint detailing. After further revisions it took the championship in 1970, which is the win that fixed the pony car in enthusiasts' memory.
