Figures of the American Revolution 2026 Forever Stamps — 25 Portraits, Pane of 25

Twenty-five portraits on one pane, issued for the nation's 250th anniversary. Alongside George Washington, Abigail Adams and Benjamin Franklin sit figures far less often named — James Armistead, Deborah Sampson, Cornplanter — which is the point the pane is making: independence was not the work of a handful of famous men.

Why twenty-five

Art Director Ethel Kessler calls a 25-portrait pane unusual, and says the number was not negotiable. Fewer faces, in her view, would have flattened the Revolution's complexity into something it never was.

Twelve artists, one pane

Every portrait was commissioned new for the Postal Service, spread across twelve artists working in oil, egg tempera, pastel and digital media. The mix is deliberate — the varied handling keeps the subjects from blurring into a single house style.

Issue details

Sold in panes of 25. As Forever stamps they remain equal in value to the First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate in effect whenever they are used.
