Why Frankenmuth
The first-day city is home to Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, which calls itself the world's largest Christmas store and has the numbers to back the claim.
The main building covers 7.35 acres. Three seventeen-foot Santas and a fifteen-foot snowman stand at the entrance. The parking lot holds 1,080 cars and 50 buses. It is open 361 days a year, stocks more than 50,000 different ornaments and decorations sourced from 70 countries, and keeps over 350 fully decorated trees standing at once.
The family behind it
Wally Bronner founded the store in 1945 in a modest building put up by his father, with the straightforward aim of sharing the season with as many people as possible. It grew from there. Bronner died in 2008 and his family has carried the business on; the store still stands at 25 Christmas Lane, and it still reduces most adults who walk in to something like childhood.
