Lunar New Year 2020 Forever Stamps — Year of the Rat, First-Class Postage

The first of twelve stamps in the Postal Service's third Lunar New Year series. The Year of the Rat ran from January 25, 2020 to February 11, 2021.

Reading the design

Blue dominates — one of the lucky colors for people born in a rat year. The mask itself is assembled from elements chosen for meaning rather than decoration: several patterns were drawn with Asian textile traditions in mind, and the circle at the center of the rat's head stands for the new moon that opens the Lunar New Year. A note of red, the luckiest color of all, ties the stamp to the decorations that go up around it.
