The set
Ten PEANUTS characters drawn from Schulz's own artwork, issued for the 100th anniversary of his birth. At the center of the pane is a black-and-white photograph of Schulz taken in 1987. The ceremony was held in Santa Rosa, California, home of the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center.
The cartoonist
Schulz seemed born to draw comic strips and did little else. PEANUTS launched in 1950 and gave American culture Charlie Brown, Snoopy and a supporting cast that has not aged out. What set the strip apart was the depth he gave characters working within four small panels — an approach that changed what a daily comic strip could be.
