The set

Four designs, released to coincide with the 2022 film Lightyear, each showing Buzz in a different pose with artwork supplied by Pixar Animation Studios. This one is a close-up profile. The selvage of the pane of 20 adds a full-body view in the green and silver space suit. The first-day ceremony was held at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

Where the character came from

Buzz first appeared in Toy Story in 1995 alongside Sheriff Woody, voiced by Tim Allen. The friendship did not start as one — Buzz was convinced he was an actual space ranger, and Woody resented him for it.

What the two of them work through, over obstacles and a fair amount of self-discovery, is jealousy: how to stop judging someone harshly on first impression and let an unexpected friendship happen instead. It is a lesson aimed squarely at children, and it holds up.
