Five designs by Rafael López, showing mariachi musicians and their instruments against backgrounds built from Mexican village imagery. This one features a musician with his guitarrón. The first-day event was held during the Mariachi Spectacular de Albuquerque Showcase Competition Concert.

The tradition

Mariachi is central to Mexican musical culture and has become steadily more popular in the United States — one of the clearest examples of Mexican influence inside American culture.

The charro suits the musicians wear come from Mexican horsemen. They range from relatively casual to highly formal, and they function as a statement of cultural pride; the silhouette is recognized worldwide.
