The four designs

Purple pasqueflower, orange-red wood lily, bright yellow alpine buttercup, and dark pink Woods' rose. Lili Arnold drew each by hand and then converted the drawings digitally into a block print aesthetic. There was no formal ceremony; the first-day cancellation came from Alpine, Wyoming, a town ringed by the range of mountain habitats these flowers grow in.

About the pasqueflower

Pasqueflowers belong to the genus Pulsatilla and are native to North America, Europe and Asia. The name traces to the Hebrew pasakh, for Passover — they bloom in early spring, around Easter and Passover. They also go by wind flower, prairie crocus, Easter flower and meadow anemone, and are frequently treated as a subgenus of Anemone. English botanist Philip Miller classified them in 1754. The pasqueflower is the provincial flower of Manitoba and the state flower of South Dakota.

They favor cool climates and alpine ground, growing at elevations up to 12,500 feet in prairies, open hillsides, woodlands and rocky terrain. As hardy perennials they come back every year, and stay interesting after flowering thanks to their fluffy seed heads.
