The artwork

Illustrator Laura Stutzman assembled the flag from three photographs of the same subject, which is what gives the final image its depth. Six distinct stamps make up the 2022 flag set; this is the booklet of 20 — the format that fits in a drawer or a bag without the stamps curling.

Thirteen folds

Quoting Glynis Seeley: you do not really understand the flag until someone hands you a folded one. The reference is the ceremony at a military funeral, where the fallen member's own branch performs the folding. After thirteen exact folds, the flag stands in for everything that was given.
