The stamp

Built around an original illustration by artist Noah MacMillan. The first-day ceremony was held at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, timed to the opening of the 2023 SheBelieves Cup, and the issue itself landed in the year of the Women's World Cup.

The history behind it

Women have played soccer for as long as the sport has existed, and have spent much of that time being formally banned from it in one country after another. The United States did not field its first international women's team until the 1985 Mundialito. Six years later it won the inaugural Women's World Cup in 1991 — the start of a run of success that has not really let up since.
