Bruce Lee (1940–1973) — martial artist, actor, filmmaker — was the first Asian leading man in American cinema. The artwork
The stamp reproduces Mak's black-and-white painting of Lee mid-kick, worked in egg tempera over traditional gesso. Behind him is what Alcalá describes as a calligraphic yellow brush stroke — a nod to the yellow tracksuit Lee wore in The Game of Death, a film finished and released only after his death.
BRUCE LEE and USA FOREVER run vertically down the right edge, tilted so that the kick appears to be splitting them apart. Setting LEE and USA in bold sharpens the effect. Alcalá thinks Lee himself would have liked the design.
