Saul Bellow (1915–2005) is the 34th subject in the Literary Arts series. Three National Book Awards, a Pulitzer, and the Nobel Prize put him among the most decorated American novelists of the 20th century.
The artwork
A pen-and-ink and watercolor portrait based on photographs from 1982, set against a Chicago street scene — the city where he spent most of his life. Art director Ethel Kessler designed the stamp with original art by Joe Ciardiello.
