The assembled suites weighed 1.8 oz and carried a wax seal. Correct postage was about $1.50 each. The gap was found on a kitchen table, which is the good outcome; the alternative is finding it when they come back.
Why a wax seal changes the class
Two separate things are happening, and they stack:
- Weight. 120lb cover stock with inserts runs past one ounce easily. Over one ounce means the two-ounce rate, $1.04.
- Shape. The seal is a bump. A bump is non-machinable, which adds $0.46.
$1.04 plus $0.46 is the $1.50 figure — not one adjustment but two, which is why a single extra Forever stamp does not solve it.

Weigh the whole thing, then measure it
A kitchen scale is accurate enough. Weigh one fully assembled suite — outer envelope, inner envelope, invitation, inserts, reply card, seal — because that is what gets mailed. This one came in at 1.85 oz.
Then measure the reply envelope, which is where the second problem usually hides. Hers were 3 × 5 inches; the USPS minimum is 3.5 × 5. Anything smaller is not deliverable, and a reply envelope that cannot come back defeats the entire purpose of enclosing it.
Making the correction look deliberate
Sticking a mismatched stamp beside an elegant one looks like a repair. Building a small collage looks like a choice.

What does not work is a clearance site. The listings are counterfeit, and mail that is already being hand-sorted for its shape is exactly the mail that gets inspected.
